Welcome to the new Featured Company series on PatternReview. A pattern from an indie designer is more than what's in the envelope. They put a lot more of themselves in their patterns. In this episode I am chatting with Rae Hoekstra of Made by Rae Pattern Company. From blogging, designing and sewing modern easy to sew patterns for herself and her followers, this former teacher quickly learned that there was a need for patterns which fit her design aesthetic. Rae and I talk about our love of all things making including knitting! Celebrate Made by Rae pattern week with us by posting reviews, buying and sewing with her patterns. Scroll down to find a giveaway!

My vision behind doing these interviews is not only to promote small sewing businesses but also to shed some light on the very real struggles we go through. A day in the life of a small business owner can vary greatly. Your support in reading this, buying patterns, sewing with them, subscribing to our Youtube channel will help PatternReview and Made by Rae Patterns. Thank you! Please click below to watch the very fun interview with lots of show and tell!

I absolutely love the Made by Rae Rose Pant pattern! Oh my goodness--have y'all seen the cropped pair in the lovely pink fabric that Rae made? I want to make that exact same pair of pants, including that sweet pink fabric choice too. Sure, the Trillium has a lot of options and the Gemma has a nice drape, but I always return to the Rose Pant pattern. I would love to make pairs in pink, green, lavender, orange, charcoal, and lemon linen fabrics. Oh, I bet it might be fun to make a crazy patchwork pair too! This pattern makes me want to sew.

I love the bias design of the Emerald dress. It looks great on every body type and seems incredibly comfortable. I would make many Emeralds. The Trillium is the other pattern I've been longing to pair with a beautiful cotton double gauze from my stash.

I loved watching this interview and learned so much. Must have patterns for me are the Rose pants, Emerald dress and top and I think I'm going to have to make a Trillium in the Nano Iro double gauze I have stashed away.

Love the Rose pants, just enough detail at the front and who doesn't love elastic at the back. Stylish and comfy.

I've got my eye on the Rose pants. Thinking a pair in linen would be perfect for summer. Btw What a neat new feature for PR. Look forward to more video interviews. Thanks Deepika!

I love the classic Trillium. I really should make another one for this summer season.

I absolutely love the Geranium pattern. I have used it over and over again for my granddaughter.

I've made an Emerald bias dress. I love that it's simple, comfy, but the bias cut makes it special.
