Welcome to the new Featured Company series on PatternReview. A pattern from an indie designer is more than what's in the envelope. They put a lot more of themselves in their patterns. In this episode I am chatting with Liesl Gibson of Liesl & Co. and Oliver and S Pattern Company. Liesl and I talked about the joys and challenges of founding and running a sewing business. 8 years ago Liesl decided to move her life and business to Madrid, Spain and has not looked back. I hope you enjoy this heart to heart conversation with Liesl.

Celebrate Liesl pattern week with us by posting reviews, buying and sewing with her patterns. Scroll down to find a giveaway!

My vision behind doing these interviews is not only to promote small sewing businesses but also to shed some light on the very real struggles we go through. A day in the life of a small business owner can vary greatly. Your support in reading this, buying patterns, sewing with them, subscribing to our Youtube channel will help PatternReview and Liesl & Co. Patterns. Thank you! So pleased to see this. Ever since I bought my first pattern from her company, I've been impressed with her instructions. The Amerena dress looks perfect for the heat wave season. Thanks for the chance to win a pattern!

Come summer I have some luscious Nani Iro double gauze for a Gallery Dress. I'm also adding dressier things to my retirement wardrobe and want to try the Yanaka jacket.

The YANAKA JACKET has been on my make list for a while, love the style!

I really fancy trying the Recital shirt for its shoulder princess seams, and also love the Yanaka Jacket.

Yanaka Jacket has been on my PR wishlist for awhile. Fingers crossed 🤞

I've just recently discovered Liesl's pattern company. I've purchased the Noord T-Shirt & Sweatshirt and love this pattern. Very good pattern. I will make more. And I'm sure I will try more of their pattern line. The Prado Trench Coat is very interesting, especially the short version.

The Yanaka Jacket is one I would like to try!

I've been considering the Prado Trench Coat-short version. I have my basic tan long one but the thought of making a wildly colorful one is what grabbed my attention

I am a huge fan of the Classic Shirt - it has superior drafting, excellent instructions, and is a TNT for me. It requires very few alterations to fit my short self (like shortening it 4 inches), and is all in all my favorite button down pattern.

I have only just made the Geneva blouse and I'm in love with it! My SO even complimented the fit. I have the Weekend Getaway in queue.

Hands down, Gelato is my favorite dress. Easy to sew and always looks great on any type of body. I've used it for myself and with non-English speaking sewing students and it's great every time.

my favourite is the Building Block dress book. it opened my eyes to how to make a pattern unique! If only it came in adult sizing! I’ve made the classic shirt, Breezy blouse, & Fira top. My favourite is the Classic shirt because of the many rtw details.

I've made two Gallery tunics and most recently the Belgravia dress in a merino knit. I am still looking for the right fabric for the Yanaka jacket. Such great patterns.

The Yanaka jacket , is my favourite among many, for it's lovely style lines and high collar.

I've made several Liesl, Lisette, and Oliver+S patterns. I think my favorite, though, was the Recital Shirt. Such a classic. No, wait--it's the dress from Lisette for Butterick 6169!!

I am a big Liesl fan myself! Obviously, having made many of the patterns. I particularly like the Yanaka jacket & Amarena dress. But the new Prado trench looks amazing too :)

I like the Everyday Skirt & the Soho skirt/shorts - so many cute patterns. I have sewn her Butterick 6296 pattern several times and it's a winner for classic pjs!

I'm gonna have to go with the classic shirt as I love a good button down shirt. For some reason I thought she had also released an A line skirt recently. Am I getting my days mixed up?

Ms. Liesl herself provided me with advice about some confusion I had while sewing a Fira dress muslin. She was so nice, and I am a fan. I still need to finish the actual dress; it is in a navy cotton with red strawberries. I think my favorite pattern by her is the Gallery tunic and dress because it fills a hole in my wardrobe. She has some very nice patterns.

I'm torn between two dresses I've had my eyes on for awhile: the Belgravia and the Saint Germain Wrap dresses!

The Melville cardigan and vest pattern looks really special. Classic, yet it has a few features I have not seen elsewhere. I would love to try it!

I have been wanting to make my wife something other than a bag, but she is skeptical about a homemade clothing product. I was thinking to make a T for myself as my first try in clothing. I see the Men's Metro Shirt and was thinking that would be a good introduction. Any thoughts for my first Liesl pattern.

I am a big Liesl fan, having made several of her Oliver +S patterns for my girls. As someone newer to sewing clothing, I really appreciate the clear directions! It's difficult to name a favorite, but I love the Gelato and Cappuccino dresses!

What a terrific interview! I've heard so many good things about the Classic Shirt that I'd love to give this a try. The style lines on the Yanaka Jacket are to die for.

I loved the interview and hearing a little more from Liesl. I have loved her patterns for well over a decade, the styles, drafting and instructions are so good! You can always count on them to turn out as depicted, which is a big deal. I look forward to seeing the new trench coat! My favorite pattern is probably the classic shirt, but my most made is the Getaway blouse. Both patterns gave me success with a woven shirt thanks to the cup sizes.

The Classic Shirt is a TNT for me. It's one of my most sewn patterns. I'm also a fan of the Maritime Top - such an easy, timeless style.

I love the Bistro dress! Great sleeve, neckline, collar options and the tie and belt loops are so stylish!
