I know you've been waiting impatiently to find out about the UFO Contest winners, but first a little about the contest.

Like every year in the UFO contest we enter items which are getting seasoned in the stash closet. Whether it's as small a job as hemming or making buttonholes or it's constructing the whole garment from the pattern pieces cut out in 90s!

This year 63 participated in this contest. Here are some more stats:

83 UFOs were completed by 31 people.
198 total yards of fabric was used to complete these projects.

Not bad!

And now...THE WINNERS

By Votes

dvmcindy for McCall 5525

Started last year, this coat needed the lining, hems, button holes and buttons.

By Surprise condition
Sharon (contest manager) and I decided that to keep an element of surprise in this contest, we'll choose a winner at the end. We bounced off a lot of ideas looking at the contest entries and decided that we really needed to give the prize to the Oldest UFO completed.

So the prize goes to,

Lucy for completing Burda 3967 ( Ski shirt).

She started this ski shirt in 1996!

I am very honored to have been chosen as one of the winners of the UFO contest. I started sewing again in late December 2007 after about a multiple year hiatus. In surfing the web, I stumbled upon PatternReview.com and so loved the entire concept of reviewing patterns and inspiring others to sew that I joined right away.

Then I read about the many contests announced for 2008 and was again very excited. What a wonderful way to encourage sewers to sew! For me the UFO Contest was very motivating. I knew I had several UFOs; and I badly wanted to finish them. But during the contest, I really enjoyed reading others reviews on their UFO's. Oftentimes it was a problem with the fit or the pattern that caused the UFO in the 1st place; and reading how the reviewer solved the problem was very educational. Joining the contest was a fantastic way for me to get back into sewing while feeling good about completing garments I had started on so long ago!

Again my thanks and appreciation both for the contest and for PR!

Both winners get a $50 gift certificate to shop at Sewzanne's Fabrics

Many thanks to Sharon M for managing this contest and to all the participants who took time to complete their UFOs!
