The votes are in for the 2024 Matchy Matchy ContestFashion is ever evolving industry where trends come and go and are often given fresh new twists where old becomes new again. One such example is the "Matchy Matchy" look. This style involves intentionally matching different elements of an outfit such as colors or patterns. For this contest we asked our contestants to create their own "Matchy Matchy" outfit in a monochromatic or printed look. This was achieved by sewing a complete outfit for an adult consisting of two or or more garments using exactly the same fabric (or fabric combo) so that all pieces match. Examples of a complete outfit: top+skirt, top+pants, sweater+shell+bottom, blazer+top+bottom, Chanel style suit made of a top and bottom. See more detailed Contest Rules here.

46 members participated in this contest.  All our members of PatternReview had the opportunity to vote to decide the winner of first and second place.  And the winners are....

First Prize Winner:  hottty in her springtime Matchy Matchy mini wardrobe!

hottty fell in love with printed fabric at Splash Fabrics based in Seattle, WA to make a head to toe Matchy Matchy outfit. Her full outfit consists of Sew Chic Phantom JacketSimplicity 9752 A (capris and top), a Reversible Bucket Hat and Mod Podge Shoes. How did hottty's outfit evolve? "I had already fallen for the Sew Chic Phantom Jacket pattern so it was obvious that this was going to be a raincoat. Wait a minute - they have matching material in 100% cotton? I could make pants to match. Soon the conversation turned to a matching top and while we are at it - how about a reversible bucket hat. Laminated on one side and 100% cotton on the other. The shoes (which I really do love) were the result of much joking around but actually, I love them!"  Read her review here.

Second Prize WinnerCupid Dog in her vintage style Matchy Matchy mini wardrobe

Cupid Dog used Vintage 1970s cotton to make her funky matchy matchy outfit. The full outfit consists of a Butterick 4295 (coat)Simplicity 8701 (pants) and  New Look 6808 (top). How did Cupid Dog's outfit evolve? "While I was going through my fabric, looking for lining for my lovely blue wool. I rediscovered this absolutely fabulous vintage 1970s fabric. And I thought, I so want a coat in that. I so do. And then I thought, what if I made pants? What would those look like (I used the same pattern I would have made to make the wool pants) - and I really love them. And then of course, no way will I do a Kate Moss moment, so a top was required."  Read her review here.

Congratulations Hotty and Cupid Dog! Both of your outfits are so imaginative and pure delight! It was so hard to decide which mere five entries to vote for (except I had to vote for moi), they were all so right for the individual sewers. I had a great time sewing my outfit, and I will enjoy the mix-and-match possibilities in May.
