November is PatternReview's birthday month.

On November 28th, 2023, PatternReview will be 22 years old!

Pattern Reviews, contests, classes, sewing machine chats, tips, new fabric and pattern acquisitions and those from the stash, forums and new fabric store discoveries are some of the goings-on at PatternReview. And while those are some of the activites which may have brought you to PatternReview, I believe it is the friendships, camaraderie and the simple acts of kindness is the reason, you have stayed. Creating a culture of kindness is important to me.

So, to celebrate kindess in our community I started a simple series we call 12 Days of Thanks. The idea, is simple. Each day for 12 days we encourage you, our members to thank someone on PatternReview who has helped you in your sewing journey or brought a smile to your day. See the original blog post from November 2013

That year (2013) you flooded the comments section with so many beautiful words of kindness. Since then we have been hosting 12 Days of Thanks annually, this being our 11th year!

In these years, I have seen so many acts of kindness from our members towards each other. From writing reviews and participating in contests, to taking classes and buying patterns, you make this community what it is today! Thanks to our volunteers who spend countless hours helping others navigate the site on forums and contests. Our dedicated teachers are amazing! They continue to believe in my vision of imparting sewing education through PatternReview. Our sponsors also deserve a vote of thanks for donating generous prizes for our giveaways and contests. We are a small team of two here in the office, I am grateful to Laura for all that she does. From blog posts, to shipping your orders and brainstorming other ideas, she always has my back.

Help us continue this series by posting a thank you to someone each day for 12 days, starting today. While this is not a contest, our sponsors are helping us celebrate by giving away prizes every day!

Great, what do I need to do?

All you need to do is tell us in the comments section of this blog post about one Pattern Review member who has helped you recently. Whether it is fixing a sewing mistake, writing a review of a pattern you are interested in sewing, advice on a pattern, help with your contest entry or maybe just writing quality reviews that put a smile on your face. Thank them! And for each day (for the next 12 days) you post, you will be entered into a drawing to win some awesome prizes!

Here are some comments which were posted last year.

"I am thankful for SusanK50. She writes wonderful reviews of her projects and takes lovely pictures to share. She has introduced me to a couple of independent pattern companies through her creations and reviews. Her smile is contagious."
- karentn

"A thank you to Raye Ann for producing a super cool member of the next generation of sewerist in Quinna Rose! ( Raye Ann is super cool all on her own, on multiple levels, too) ."
- Raffey1

"Today I am adding my thanks to the many given to AgentAmy for her inspiring fashion thread. I love checking in regularly & often will take a second look at a designer collection thanks to her commentary & that of other participants in the thread. It's just so fun!"
- Melwyk

I'm thankful for a wonderful community that includes folks like Usta B, Dorris, Poor Pigling, Stirwatersblue, AnnieO, and others who've become friends and penpals outside of PR as well on inside.

A big thank you for this user community, to all the members who have already, and are still sharing their knowledge. Yesterday I needed information about sewing a corset/bustier. I went straight to PR, and found many interesting old discussions. And if I hadn't found what I was looking for, I know I could start a new topic and have people generously sharing advice. THANK YOU!

I want to give Deepika a big, big sewing hug for creating this wonderful, safe, genuinely caring and friendly international sewing space. I have two "home threads" here, but no matter what my mood or sewing progress, I can trust that there is always a place I can go to share sewing YAYS and woes, to pour out my heart if needed.

Deepika replied...(11/22/23 1:31 PM ET)
Carol, I will take that hug and sending one to you as well. Thank you!

A big thank you to Flabeth and Sewingsummer for starting the Monthly Popup Sewalongs two years ago. And a big shoutout to all those who have kept the Popups going with fun ideas and camaraderie. The Popups really helped to inspire and spark my sewjo and have made sewing and PR so much fun, no matter what else is going on in the world.

Thank you to Auntie Susan for her always helpful sewing tips, but most of all for sharing her expertise in bra making. This year I started sewing my own bras. It required learning a new set of skills and I relied on many of her techniques. I am happy to say that I have successfully sewn several bras thanks to Auntie Susan!

I, too, am thankful for all the sewing contest participants who support each other via contests chats. A special shoutout to ClaudC who, in a dark moment as I was trying to finish an entire suit and accessory in the course of a week, advised me to "finish the sewing... you can always put plenty of makeup on for the photoshoot" (or something to that effect). Where else might you find such sisterly advice than here on PR?!

I am thankful for fellow geoscientist Litapita, who inspires me with her easy-to-wear separates that usually include natural fibers. She skillfully and enviro-consciously crafts garments that are not only easy on the eyes, but easy on our planet as well.

Everytime, I'm blown away by the amazing creativity, sheer ingenuity, dogged perservance, "can do" attitude, sartorial style and technical excellence on display. I won't name individuals as I'm sure I'll miss someone without meaning to :P You ALL inspire me! Also all the PR community who post reviews, answer questions on the forum and fabric/patterrn enablers XD I have learned several lifetimes of wisdom from you! <3

I too would like to thank all the Sewing Bee participants and judges. This year's Bee was my first and I was blown away by all the support and encouragement provided. I found each participant's interpretation of the challenges to be truly inspiring. Rosesred encouraged us to "sew the pretty" and what lovely advice that was, to work with the nicest fabric. It takes guts to post photos of yourself; fitting yourself is hard, and examining your own form is usually pretty emotionally charged! Thanks to SewLSC for keeping us amazed during the Fabric and Pattern Stash Contest this summer. In the contest discussion, Dolorousrattus reported: "SewLSC blew everyone out of the water by using 126.84 yards of her fabric to sew 72 items!" It was fun to follow along. And what is even more amazing, it looks like SewLSC has posted at least another 50 reviews since the contest ended!

And second, for sharing her wonderful Myrtle mysteries and the doll clothes (and cute pets) she makes for each book. She sent some bookplates for my niece who is now an avid fan and a budding sewer!

If you haven't read a pattern review by YoungRobert, you really ought to. She is another member who is pretty consistent in documenting her work. What I have found is that when someone explains what she did, even if it isn't pertinent to me, I begin to look at the pattern with different eyes. I look at the alterations differently and can see how I might approach issues that are more particularly mine. The inventiveness of others often spurs my thinking. Thank you.

AnnaFlamma writes pattern reviews. She sews basic everyday wear and often finds free patterns. Her reviews typically contain some helpful insights interesting getting the sewing done. Often she will make an alteration to the pattern and explains the how and why. This is so appreciated.

I would like to thank Pattern Review and the platform that they offer, to all of us. Having this program to come to for information, classes, patterns, opinions, is a blessing for me. Seeing how a particular pattern looks before I sew it, before I buy the pattern, is incredibly helpful. Having other sewers opinion on the ease or difficulty of the pattern, and seeing it visually on a real person, is a gift. So, for this entry, I want to thank Pattern Review for what their site offers to sewers. When I am thinking of purchasing a new pattern, I come to Pattern Review to see the photos and reviews first!!! So, thank-you!!

I would like to thank ClaudC for organizing the spring PR meetup in Chicago this year. I don't live in the area but was in town on business, and Claudine and the Chicago-area members welcomed me with open arms! I'm thankful for all your kind comments and encouragement. :)

You took the words right out of my mouth. :) I enjoyed meeting you too. I'll add my thanks to ClaudC for organizing the meetup - it was fun to explore Vogue Fabrics with a like minded group.

I want to shout out Raffey1 (aka Meredith) for being generally amazing with great style and helpful comments, tips and reviews. She graces us with her unique styles and designer interpretations. And on a personal note, she has been so supportive and thoughtful in contacting me in times of struggle. PR loves Raffey!!

Yay! One of my favourite times of year! This is such an uplifting post every year. I'd like to thank Deepika and the PR staff for coming up with such fun and community building activities like this post, and contests, and forum threads, and....all of it!

0oh, I get to go first! My first day of thanks goes to the best sewing buddy a person could have, Beth (Flabeth). She is a very special person, as well as excellent sewerist and Wordler, and I am grateful to call her friend.
