The votes are in for the final contest of 2023 - The Fitted Blouse There are so many reasons why we sew and most likely one of them is the desire to own well-fitting garments. This contest brought FIT to the forefront and we encouraged you to showcase those fitting
skills in the form of a FITTED BLOUSE using darts, seams, tucks or other forms of shaping techniques. See full rules here

32 members participated in this contest.  All our members of PatternReview had the opportunity to vote to decide the winner of first and second place.  And the winners are....

First Prize - arubalass for her Butterick 5678 Petite Shirt.

I decided to play with the stripes by cutting front and back part of the princess pattern so the stripes would lie horizontally. The front, back side and sleeves were cut so the stripes would lie vertically. However, the cuffs were cut so the stripes would lie horizontally. I also cut the inner top collar on the bias.

I definitely enjoyed sewing this garment, even though I was not totally enamored with the fabric. However, the color is intense in a positive way. I am going to wear with this blouse with a black cardigan as seen in one of my photos. - arubalass.

Second Prize - Melwyk for her BurdaStyle Magazine: 04-2018-105 Blouse

Because the darts etc are the main event in this blouse, I used a solid so they could be the highlight. I'm not used to sewing much with solids though, so couldn't resist a patterned inner yoke and collar stand! (I used scraps from my Barbiecore dress I made in the summer). I also found the perfect buttons in my stash and was thrilled.

I am very happy to have a hot pink blouse for my last project of the year. I've wanted to make one for ages. This pattern is great for me and I love the colour and shape of it. I might not have finished it in 2023 if not for the push of this contest so am happy to have had the deadline- Melwyk

Wow, Melwyk, fits like a glove! Beautiful blouse and love the pop of pattern personality. The pattern is fantastic but your fit is the star.

Congratulations arubalass! I often look to your reviews for some self nudging and especially appreciate the subtle use of grain rotation to elevate your blouse. As typical, you've gone beyond the ordinary.

As stated in one of my comments. I am truly humbled and appreciate all of your kind comments. I completed my shirt three weeks before the deadline and placed it on my dress form and considered not entering, because I felt it was not good enough. At times, I am my own worst critic.
