In the second round of the Sewing Bee we asked our participants to make a garment with collar as the focus.
We loved how they embraced the collar and made it their own. Inspired by a humble sport from their childhood or a red carpet gala, never before have we seen collars of so many shapes and sizes. I was particulary intrigued by the amount of thought and care which went into constructing these works of arts. Kudos to all the participants. You have created some extraordinary garments in this round.
I hope you will take the time to read how these brilliant members made the collar the star of the show in their projects. Who knows, maybe you will be inspired to do the same!
I was so impressed by the brain bending and pattern drafting that went into all of the impressive entries!
-Connie Bontje (Contest Committee, Sewing Bee Judge)
The judges for this round were Connie, Bonnie, Anne, SandraB, Mvi14 and Deepika. We scored your entries based on the following criteria:
1. Adherence to the rules.
2. Fit
3. Sewing Quality
4. Presentation ( Review and Photos)
5. Creativity
6. Overall impression
We scored independently first and then combined our scores to come up with the winner and the 21 participants who will be moving to the next round. And now it is time to meet the winner of this round.
THE WINNER
CupidDog for her exaggerated double collar wool coat.
When collars were announced my brain went immediately to a 1940s jacket of mine (the single most expensive piece of vintage clothing I own). It has a beautiful double collar. The jacket is very dramatic and I can only wear it four or five times a year. I thought wouldn't it be great if I had a coat with a double collar that I could wear with my vintage dresses (must fit a crinoline) and jeans and boots. I wanted this to be more versatile.
I have really enjoyed the creative push that the sewing bee has given me, I had no idea when I joined round one (my first one) how enlivened my creative brain would be by the experience. Even with all the challenges of making something in a rush, this has been a lot of fun.
