The Stash Contest: Fabric and Pattern 2023 has ended and the winners have been selected.  This year we combined both the Fabric and the Pattern Stash into one BIG Contest. For this contest, we asked our members to sew an item from both a stashed pattern AND stashed fabric. Eligible "Stash" has to have been owned the items (fabric and pattern) prior to 2023 (which is a mere 5 months). Specific fabric requirements and pattern requirements can be found in Contest Rules, here.

56 members participated in this contest over two months, June 1st to July 31st, 2023. Determination of prizes will be slightly different for this contest, with two equal prizes.
Prize #1: weighted random based on number of patterns used.
Prize #2: weighted random based on yardage.

Find a more detailed explanation in Contest Rules under Prizes

And the winners are....

Prize #1 Winner (weighted random based on number of patterns used):  Lynn Scott congratulations you are the winner in the patterns category!

"What nice news to wake up to this morning! This contest was just what I needed to make a dent, however small, in my sizeable stash of fabrics and patterns. I'm motivated to keep on going."

- Lynn Scott

Prize #2 Winner (weighted random based on yardage): MsIngie Congratulations you are the winner in this category!

Oh my, what a surprise! Never expected I'd get the random draw with only one entry. Thanks. So excited.

-MsIngie

Congratulations to all who entered the Stash Contest: Fabric and Pattern 2023, whom accounted for a grand total of 448 yards of fabric sewn and 225 patterns used .  Now that's a lot of FABRIC and PATTERNS!!!  Check out all our participants Stash projects in the Photo Gallery, for some inspiration. If you would like to follow the participant chat on the message board, check it out here.

Special thanks to our Contest Manager, dolorousrattus for managing this contest.

"Does anyone else see the irony in a contest meant to encourage us to sew down our stashes, that the prizes are gift certificates to buy... more fabric?
Big congrats to Lynn Scott and MsIngie on your wins! "

Thank you to Fabric Mart for sponsoring this contest!

Contests are nothing without its participants. I am moved by the camaraderie on the contest boards in each contest we run month after month. While PatternReview is a community with more than half a million members worldwide, when you join a contest or a sew-along, it really feels like a family. I encourage everyone to join a contest or two if you haven't already. The winners in this contest were randomly generated to motivate even more people to participate. But I'd like to give a special shout out to SewLSC who really took it upon herself to try as many new patterns and use up that stash as she could. What an accomplishment!

"I've used the contest to help me get my sewjo back, build a back to the office after three years of jeans and sweats wardrobe, replace the work wardrobe I abandoned three years when the pandemic hit and improve my sewing skills with practice, practice, practice in a way I've never had time to do before.

Stash Items Made: 72
Stash Yards Sewn: 126.84

OPML Items Made (using stash fabric, but not all stash patterns): 22
OPML yards sewn: 36.75

Thank you again Adrienne … and thank you to this wonderful PR community. You’ve all been so supportive as I’ve adjusted to my new widowed, empty nester normal and used sewing and the PR community as a means to sew a better life!!! :)

Due to our local big box fabric store carrying fabric in colors and textures that do not suit me, I've not been going to that store most of the summer. A plus is that I'm saving money. I'm sewing from fabric already on my shelf. In a house deep-clean, I donated fabric that has sat on the back of the shelf for years. Lately, I've been sewing totally random things, such as shopper bags made out of our large cat food bags (I can't stand a "wimpy", droopy bag.) and, just yesterday, I made a skirt out of t-shirts. It actually looks semi-tailored, which suits me. Made my own pattern for this, as I couldn't find one. So, the idea of using what I have and not shopping has contributed to my sewing creativity! I still use my basic pencil skirt and sleeveless sheath dress patterns from the 90's, early 2000's. My sewing these items has improved as I use them over and over again, always trying to get that "perfect" result. I enjoy the contestants posts! There is so much talent. Thank you. :)

First time I've really thrown myself into a stash reduction and it's been productive! And pink. Viral marketing of a certain movie has been more influential than I suspected? Pink as a recent color of the year? Lots of impulse purchase pink in stashes? (Guilty as implied.) But take a look at the gallery, it's pink dresses galore!
