40 of us gathered in the Big Apple to celebrate PR's 13th Birthday at Elliott Berman Textiles who know how to throw a good party. See here and here.
Because we are still amazed at how quickly the years have gone by, the theme of our party was "Dress in the Era - Past, Present, Future". I made a new dress (of course). I hacked the Winter Street Dress but more on that later. For now, some party pics.
The yummiest black forest cake ever!
No effort was spared by our hosts to make it a special evening for us. Check out the attention to detail. They even made wine bottle labels!
We mingled
And shopped for fabric
And of course no Elliott Berman Party would be complete without fabulous games and prizes (thank you!)
Two teams of 5 were given fabrics and trims asked to create two different looks from the 70s.
The prize for best dress of the Era went to Kim (costume Kim)
And I got to try on Sharon's corset! (Photo courtesy Peter Lappin)
Editors from Threads magazine were there to join in the fun!
Thank you Mathew and Eugenia and the staff at Elliott Berman Textiles for throwing us an awesome birthday party!
McCall's Tour
Earlier that evening a smaller group met up at McCall Pattern Company's New York HeadQuarters for a private tour led by Kathy Wiktour.
As we strolled the halls of McCalls (hey that rhymes!) Kathy pointe us out to historical artifacts displayed proudly and I spotted our very own velosewer on their walls!
It was fascinating to learn how patterns are actually made. She took us to the famous fabric and notion library which pretty much has samples of every fabric and notion you can dream of.
"How do you ever get anything done" I asked their employees as I looked outside admiring the spectaular views. But of course they do. Because they put out a massive amount of patterns in a single year for Butterick, McCalls, Vogue and Kwik Sew!
"We love bloggers and we love PatternReview, We check it every day!" Said Kathy. It's great to know that they care.
And before we left,
I decided to take some photos mimicing some of their pattern coversWhy not?
Thank you Kathy and Meg for an excellent tour!
Happy Birthday to PatternReview! And many thanks to all of you for making it what it is Today!
