The Big 4's newest Fall catalogs have arrived to PatternReview and are available in our PatternReview Shop. Vogue Patterns, McCall's, Butterick and Burda have come out with those in-between seasons looks that will help us transition. Each catalog has it's own style including, Vogue Patterns with their fashion forward designs, McCall's gives us their modern takes on the trendy styles, Butterick with classic styles and Burda's clean European looks that the whole family can enjoy. Let's have a look at a few of the standouts from each of the new catalogs.
This Butterick top could be a great project make for the fall. This loose fitting button front top has princess seams, dolman sleeves, neck band and shaped hem. View A has above elbow length sleeves with sleeve band. View B has long sleeves ending in button cuffs with continuous lap opening.
Butterick 6939 and Butterick 6938
Butterick gives us two really cute and fun patterns from the 1950's.
Butterick 6939: Vintage Butterick 1950's four-piece sports wardrobe sewing pattern. Carefree separates for summer fun in plaids or provincial prints with trim. View A cropped all-in-one with a button-front, scooped neckline. View B bare midriff top. View C tailored shorts. View D button-front skirt. Butterick 6938: Vintage Butterick 1950's halter dress and jacket sewing pattern. Open back halter dress has buttoned empire midriff with two piece bodice that gathers into pleats at neck back and very full skirt. Bolero jacket is dart fitted with 2 button closure at front and all in one sleeve. Authentic Vintage Reproduction includes additional size options and cutting layouts.
Burda is back with some clothing that will become a staple to your wardrobe. Both the dress and tunic top in a trendy wrap look are the perfect pieces to flatter feminine curves. The full skirt skims your mid-section, an elastic casing gives it shape. The long dress features comfortable side slits. Shoulder tabs are an eye-catching detail on both styles.
If you are looking for that top that looks great as casual and dressy, look no further than Burda 5886. These tops are quite unique – a beautiful neckline and the asymmetric design with a twist give them a special touch. The sleeves are slim fitting and either long or 3/4-length with a flounce to make the difference.
When the Vogue Patterns come in, I always feel inspired. Vogue Pattens 1953 gives you a fitted, lined dress with length variations that will make you look amazing. It has aside front seams on the skirt, thread loops, side seam pockets, invisible back zipper, left side front slit and baby hems. View A has contrast inset for a modesty panel. Dress includes matching belt with covered buckle.
Let's mix and match! Close-fitting, lined, fully interfaced bra top has sweetheart neckline, bands, front darts and separating back zipper. Flared skirt has raised waist, facings, invisible back zipper with hook and eye closure and stitched hem with horsehair braid. Pants has fly front zipper closure and back welt pocket.
McCall's gives us this trendy throwback wide legged jeans that would be so much fun colorblock. Patchwork shorts and pants with contour waistband feature fly front zipper, back darts, topstitched hem and pockets. Views A, B pants have contrast panels.
McCall's 8424 and McCall's 8423
McCall's did not forget about our cosplayers or those sewing for halloween.
McCall's 8424: Long dresses have fitted bodice with front and back darts and flared skirt. Both dresses are off the shoulder sleeves. Dress B has separate belt.
McCall's 8423: Padded and quilted pieces were worn as armour or under-armour. Pattern includes top with quilted sleeves, and a quilted vest in two lengths.The top has eyelet and twine closure.The vests have bias tape finished edges with a stand up collar and leather squares and twine for closure.
