The votes are in for PatternReview's 2023 Costume Contest. For this contest our members were asked to sew any type of costume, not just for Halloween. Examples include, a Halloween costume (of course), a Santa costume for Christmas, an outfit for a Ren Fair, a Comic Con costume, a costume for a school play, and the list goes on. Costumes may be made for adults, children, babies, or pets. See the contest rules here.
11 members participated in this contest. All our members of PatternReview had the opportunity to vote to decide the winner of first and second place. And the winners are....
First Prize Winner: denipratte in her steampunk Victorian costume
What did denipratte have to say about designing her costume, "I wanted a front lacing corset to wear over a shirt for a steampunk costume and this was what I was searching for. As I've gotten older, I've become a bit more conservative in my costume choices. When it comes to Steampunk, I haven't found much inspiration for older women - so this is my vision come to life."
Congratulations denipratte, your corset works perfectly with the rest of the dress, to make a steampunk masterpiece!
Second Prize Winner: GinnieSue in her Renaissance Frozen costume
What did GinnieSue have to say about this pattern, "I like the overall aesthetic of the dress. It's just different from what you usually find in patterns and though this is a costume, it's still a unique take on a classic chemise. I disliked the fit, read on to hear my woes."
GinnieSue, so glad you stuck with it and it all came out in the end. What a fantastic costume that you brought to life.
Congratulations to all that entered the 2023 Costume Contest. Check out all our participants costumes in the Photo Gallery. If you would like to follow the participant chat on the message board, check it out here.
