The votes are in for the 2024 ActiveWear Contest. Activewear is defined as clothing designed to be worn for sports, exercise, and outdoor activities. Examples include gym clothing, yoga pants and tops, hiking shorts, swimsuits, skating outfits, gymnastics leotards, martial arts attire, horse-back riding clothing, etc. For this contest, contestants were asked to make an article of clothing or an ensemble to be used in a physical activity, as above. 25 members participated in this contest. All our members of PatternReview had the opportunity to vote to decide the winner of first and second place. And the winners are....
First Prize Winner: DTsewingstories with her classic anorak used for cycling
DTsewingstories used Waffle Patterns - Arare Pullover to make a cycling jacket suitable for use in the rain and the wind. What made DTsewingstories sewing experience a challenge? "The fabric I used was difficult to work with, and although I successfully made a jacket with more or less the same fabric last spring, this project had more complex details which would have been okay in a less slippery fabric, and without the added bulk of the piping. The fabric has no 'give', so every little pucker shows up." Read her review here.
Second Prize Winner: Seamingly Simple in her early-season horseback riding combo.
Seamingly Simple used four patterns, all from different designers, to create a horseback riding outfit to keep her warm. All of her garments were made from the same fabric, and this is what Seamingly Simple has to say, "All of the garments were sewn from Polartec Power Stretch from Discovery Fabrics. This fabric provides warmth, wicks perspiration, and provides a wide range of motion during physical activity." Read her review and meet her new horse, Sully, here.
